Pakistan Super League History (PSL) – How it All Started

Regardless of your location, if you enjoy watching cricket, you must be familiar with the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The Pakistan Super League was established to bring cricket home at a time when leagues were established for the purpose of entertaining people and making money.

Australia is due in Pakistan shortly after the PSL; thus, it has so far been a success story. Numerous more teams have already traveled the nation or plan to do so in the future. The folks who imagined Pakistan’s greatest cricket tournament and this cricket brand deserve all the credit for it. Investigate the origins of this situation.

Pakistan Super League was the need of Pakistan

Pakistan needed PSL more than it did the PCB. When Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, Al Qaeda, and Daesh carried out bombings and other assaults in the nation seven years ago, it was one of the most hazardous places on earth to visit. As a result, nobody was safe. The country’s reputation as well as the sports and tourism sectors suffered significantly.

The Pakistan Cricket Board used to make and spend exactly what it needed until 2009. The nation’s once-packed cricket venues were left deserted for years after the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore. Thanks to the IPL, the BCCI became the richest cricket organization in the world between 2009 and 2015. It had already begun to lose its sway in the cricket community. PCB, in contrast, had nothing with which to play.

The Pakistan Premier League was first created in 2012, but it took another four years for it to launch under a different name, the Pakistan Super League. It was done to set it apart from other brands. PSL is one of the few brands that Pakistan can proudly own and be associated with.

Money, Talent, Entertainment & Competition

PCB had a lot of work to do, and it needed money to do it. The PSL began with no one knowing what would transpire. When the PSL began in 2016, the UAE was hosting the Masters’ Champions League. In a harsh environment where only the strongest could live, it all began.

Additionally, it was developed in the UAE. In the event that it takes place on dead pitches, you cannot compare it to any other league. However, following its inaugural season, the Pakistan Super League became a success story.

Pakistani cricket fans missed playing on their own fields, so when the PSL began with the intention of bringing cricket back home, they at least had something to celebrate.

After the event began, fresh, promising young people began receiving opportunities, and after just two editions, Pakistan won the Champions Trophy 2017 after being led by the impressive Hasan Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Shadab Khan, and Ruman Raees. They were all recognized and chosen based on their league performances.

Cricket Came Back Home

Pakistan welcomed Zimbabwe to their country following the 2015 World Cup. But for the following two years, it was unable to host any additional nations. Prior to the commencement of the second PSL season, it was announced that the championship game will take place in Lahore at Gaddafi Stadium. The playoffs and championship games were held in Pakistan the following year.

There were up to 8 Pakistan Super League matches played there in 2019. Prior to the commencement of the next season, West Indies and Sri Lanka had visited Pakistan. When PCB recognized that international players had also begun to trust Pakistan, things began to return to normal, and the complete fifth season was scheduled to be held where the league belonged.

The Pakistan Super League’s 2020 edition was perhaps the finest in its history. The entire tournament was meant to be held in Pakistan, but due to a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases and abrupt adjustments to the government’s travel and visa regulations, the remaining games were postponed.

In 2021, everything was expected to become better. But after the first 16 games, when some promising situations were discovered, it was necessary to start from scratch once more.
